Ten Year Old, Alec Greven’s Passion for Writing, and Getting Published!

2 May 2009 One Comment

Ten year old Alec Greven has three published books and a movie option on his first book, How to Talk to Girls. Alec has appeared on Ellen, the Today Show, CNN, Inside Edition, Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien.

It all began as a writing assignment by his then, third grade teacher. It was an independent writing assignment, the “books” would then be spiral bound. Alec decided to observe things and write about them. He noticed that boys and girls didn’t always get along on the playground. Alec’s story, “How to Talk to Girls”, was a success when sold at a school book fair, and later written about in a local paper. A local television reporter interviewed Alec. A copy of the segment was sent to the “Ellen” show.

Alec appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Ellen had a professionally bound copy made of Alec’s book, and referred him to a New York publisher. Harper Collins’ Children’s Books has published Alec’s How to Talk to Girls, How to Talk to Moms, How to Talk to Dads, and will soon publish How to Talk to Santa. Twentieth Century Fox has bought the movie rights to How to Talk to Girls, but has yet to sign a screenwriter.

How inspirational is Alec’s story?  I do believe, however, that it’s is often who you know, rather than what you know that can help you succeed. Network. Don’t burn bridges. ;)

Here is an interview of Alec on his first book How to Talk to Girls.
