"TODAY IS A PRESENT"

By Shirley W. Mitchell

My passion is to live in the present. Life is a present. My desire is to celebrate today the youngest day of my grand finale.

The attitude that each new day is a special gift from the Master’s hand, will keep me drinking from the fountain of youth. He hands me a package of 1,440 new unused minutes each day to be spent in the manner I choose. At the end of the day my 1,440 minutes are gone forever. I cannot save them or carry them over until the next day. Each new day is a new life.

God in his infinite wisdom gives me only one moment at a time. My task is to celebrate that moment. Look at an hour glass. One grain of sand passes through the narrow part of the hour glass at a time. One minute at a time ticks away my life. As the minutes turn into a day, I have the opportunity to make each day a pearl. At the end of my life I will have a beautiful string of pearls.

My only daughter Karen, my shining star, asked me, “Mom, if you could give me one piece of advice, what would it be?” I smiled and replied, “celebrate your life in the present.”

I, along with the leading edge of the 76 million baby boomers, am enjoying the second half of life. This is a rare and treasured time to follow my bliss. Today I chose to spend my time with the enthusiastic, stimulating “Lit Chicks,” a group of authors, speakers, radio and television personalities who meet once a month for a luncheon, reading of manuscripts, and discussion of the book market.

I am passionate while traveling, promoting my books FABULOUS AFTER 50, and SENSATIONAL AFTER 60, meeting new people, and making a difference in lives.

Many senior boomers are enjoying the excitement of the golden years of life. Craving new adventure may bring about extraordinary ways to spend precious time. Leisure time, self time, or solitude may be possible during mid-life years. For many, mature living is a rare and treasured time.

Author Bessie A. Stanley says, “He has achieved success, who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much.”

Many over 50 people are LIVING WELL! This gift of years is being received with thanksgiving. A life well lived is a process. Today is the time to live well, not tomorrow when you think times will be better, not next year when you plan to be wealthy, not 10 years from now when you think you life will be perfect. County singer Willie Nelson sings a song, IT’S ALWAYS NOW.

People who are passionate about life LAUGH OFTEN. When I smile or laugh, I enjoy a face and a spirit life.

“Laughter is wine for the soul…laughter soft, or loud and deep, tinged through with seriousness…the hilarious declaration made by man that life is worth living.” SEAN 0’CASEY

To LOVE MUCH is imperative for successful aging. God is love. Love makes the world go round. Love is music to the soul.

Jack London said, “I would rather be ashes than dust. I would rather that my spark would burn out in a brilliant blaze than be stifled by dry-rot. I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. The proper function of man is to live, not exist.”
